Welcome to Niceville, Valparaiso and the Bay Area. On behalf of the Chamber staff and members, I would like to thank you for your interest in our area and congratulate you on your choice of destination! Niceville and Valparaiso are wonderful places to live, work and raise a family.
Nestled comfortably along the shores of Choctawhatchee Bay in Northwest Florida, Niceville and Valparaiso are friendly towns filled with people of all ages and interests; their warmth and sincerity is apparent throughout our communities. This coupled with an endless variety of indoor and outdoor activities ranging from waterfront dining to picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing and more, Niceville and Valparaiso offer a cornucopia of fun-filled activities. Also, with easy access to the Mid-Bay Bridge, you’re just minutes away from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!
We are also home to Eglin Air Force Base, which started in 1935 as the Valparaiso Bombing and Gunnery Range. Today, Eglin hosts some 50 different military units representing virtually every major command; including the Air Force Material Command, Army 7th Special Forces Group and the Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal School. Because of this large military presence, our area is filled with businesses and contractors that support these varied missions. Along with Eglin, Hurlburt Field is to our west, Duke Field is to the north with Camp Rudder to our south. This central location has made our area the “Center of Business” for Okaloosa County.
No matter what level of education you seek, our schools will have a curriculum to meet the needs of you and your family. The schools in our area are outstanding and continue to receive the highest ratings. In addition, our local State College has a Fine and Performing Arts Center featuring Broadway plays, musicals and symphony performances.
Turning to sports, Niceville and Valparaiso have leagues of every kind for all ages. From PAL soccer to baseball, softball, football or basketball, we take pride in giving area youth the opportunity to participate in organized sports throughout their school years. We also enjoy many beautiful area golf courses and a variety of recreational facilities for the whole family to enjoy.
